I am now working full-time. I started last Thursday (26th May).

Here is a short description of my job:

I work in the Closed Account Management Services..

Clydesdale Bank is part of the National Australian Bank Group which includes Yorkshire Bank in England, Northern Bank in Ulster and National Irish Bank in the Irish Republic. The UK and Irish banks trade under their own names but under the umbrella of National Australia Group.

The Clydesdale and Yorkshire bank accounts are stored in the building i work in, the department that i work in store all the closed accounts. I'm the dude who inputs them into the main database.

Sound pretty boring, doesn't it. The only thing that keeps me amused is some of the funny/interesting names that i have to input.

Things have changed since then. I am still working in the same department but i've been moved across to the Yorkshire Bank side, the busier part of the Closed Accounts Department.

The National Australian Bank Group got rid of the Irish banks last year but they haven't updated their site about it yet.

Some of my friends still find it funny that i work for an Australian company, they always asking me if there are any Kangaroo's jumping about in the office or if i have to drink Fosters on my lunch break. (the answer is No both questions btw . I just keep on telling them the story about the time a koala bear got smuggled in to make tea and coffee for everyone.

Back to the serious stuff: I've mostly been processing closed accounts. They use a weird computer system that i've never encountered before but i'm starting to get the hang of it. Basically i do a series of checks on closed accounts to make sure that they are ready to be closed then i process them. I want to keep it the descriptions as basic as possible as it isn't a very exciting job.

To get this move across i worked my ass off and the supervisor noticed that and kept on giving me new stuff to do.

So far it looks like i've been impressing the right people. I have to, i'm on a 6 month contract (with the option to extend it at the end of the 6 month period).

I got this job through an employment agency so i'm getting paid a little less than the company staff and the holiday benefits really suck. I have to work like a month and a half to earn a day off, plus i have to keep days off in able to get paid for Bank Holidays.

Apart from that i can't complain about the job after all it has enabled me to move out of my parental home.
